I've placed a completely new feature on-line: The Public Gallery.

Here you can upload your own images, and other users can vote on the image. The winning picture of (initially, I'll make it one week if enough entries come in) each month will make it to the permanent gallery.

To vote, you must use your username and password that you also use for the new Forums. So initially you will have to register in the forums.

If you like this feature, spread the word around!

New forums are up -- they are hosted on this server now. Thanks to Freelancer for pointing them out!
I'm sorry you will have to re-register, but at least the registrations are kept with www.trekmeshes.ch only, and I will have more control over privacy. Also, I can now combine the usernames with other features on the site, soon to be disclosed!

The searchengine can now also search for words in the name, author or comments of every mesh in the database. That makes it easy to find meshes called 'Enterprise,' or ships of the 'Galor' class, or to find all meshes by 'Ed Giddings.'

The searchengine now has an option to search for meshes after a particular date. This is useful in case you want to look for newly added meshes (and I plan to add some in the future).

All 99 meshes currently in the database have been set to 'added today (24 Feb 2004)', since I haven't got their original add dates.

Allright, next step. The site needs a redesign.

I don't have the time to do this myself, so I'm proposing a contest. Anyone can join, anyone can propose what they want. I make the selection of which one will be the final, and if I'm not sure, I'll post the possibilities here for a vote.

To be sure, here's the list of requirements/conditions:

  • You can design the site any way you like, but it must be a 'modern' site.
  • The news, meshes, forums and links page will be PHP generated. I can change the scripts to fit any layout you like (I have a new forum ready).
  • The site must be viewable in 800x600 resolutions, and it must be properly viewable in 1024x768 through to 1600x1024. This means that it doesn't have to look good in 800x600, as long as users can download meshes. It does need to look good in 1024x768 through to 1600x1024.
  • Page sizes (including images) should not be too big. The site should load reasonably on a 56k connection (ie. comparable to other sites).
  • You can credit yourself somewhere in the design, as long as it's not too big.
  • You can email me works-in-progress (ie. sketches, seperate pages, design ideas), which I'll let you know my opinion on. However, a positive opinion does not constitute that you're a winner.
  • The site must be viewable on the mainstream browsers (including, but not limited to Mozilla, IE, Netscape). Trying to stick to HTML 4.01 or xHTML will do that :).

And some legal stuff:

  • I decide which design is the winner, and in the future I can decide to change the design with no notice (though I would obviously try to keep the original designer in the process).
  • There will be no copyrighted material in the design
  • The writer of the design will allow me full use (ie. you cannot claim the design back, or ask me to take it down, or pay royalties). You can, however, ask other sites that steal the design to change theirs (the design is your copyright, so to speak).

Can you help me out? Or do you know someone that can? Please mail me if you need more info, or if you have a (partial) design!

Last, but not least, I know some people have started helping out in the past. Because site updates were slow, and my internet connectivity wasn't always good, this has all died out. Those I haven't lost the email address of, I've emailed. If you have once designed something for me, and haven't received anything, I apologize for loosing your address. Please join in, though!

You're not going to believe this -- but it's done! The entire database of 99 meshes has been put on-line. Please share your thoughts on the new mesh download section, and tell me what you'd like to see different. You can do so preferably through the forum so we can all talk about it, or you can email me with your throughts.

I hope you enjoy the new setup!

Allright, so it's more work than I expected. But I've put all canon Federation ships on-line. I'll be continuing work on the database today. All should be fixed by tonight (it's 14:40 CET, 13:40 GMT right now).

However, you can already see how the download section is going to work. Check it out! I'll be glad to hear any comments.

18th of February 2004
Ok, all is ready. I'm taking the download section off-line now, it should be down for no more than 30 minutes to an hour. If there are any additional problems, I'll post it here!

Ok, all current meshes are now in the database. As you can imagine, that was the bulk of the work, and the most boring and unrewarding part. Now all I need to do is to style the output to make it fit with the site, and it can go on-line. When it goes on-line, I'll have to take the whole site off-line for 30 minutes or so, to do some renaming of files. I'll post here before I do.
