Hello,

I'll admit I am a total noob with 3ds max so please feel free to mock me.

I have downloaded some of the fantastic meshes from the download section of this site but when I open the mesh in 3ds max a message pops up saying that there are several png texture files missing. The mesh then shows as incomplete with a very basic solid colour. I can't find anywhere how to find these missing files.
I've scoured google but cannot find anything.

Can anyone please help me or point me in the right direction?

Look in the menu for "customize" and select "configure user paths"
Next Tab you can set the "external files" click on add to add your texture directories. Then the program will find them itself.

Chainsaw, Thank you for your prompt reply, Im just a little stuck with finding the correct folder

I've just tried looking for the textures folder in C:\program files\autodesk\ ..... and there is nothing there???

I've googled 3ds max textures but I just get loads of random sites with random textures on???

Can you help or point me in the right direction?

JUst tried opening this fantastic model and I got the below error. I cannot find the textures anywhere on my PC

Can you tell me what model you downloaded? Usualy there is a separate texture file with the download.

The model i downloaded was the Jem'Hadar cruiser, it just shows as solid purple.

Aha, most likely you didn't download the textures file.

But strange, non of the textures in your missing maps dialog are in this model.
Does it show as a solid purple in the viewport or in the render?

Sorry I think the message I uploaded was from a different model. I just opened one quickly so I could grab the screenshot

The hem hadar ship shows as solid purple in both render smooth and the fully rendered version.

i finally worked out the problem.

Dont laugh, I use firefox and when i click on the textures link firefox just brings up a load of code. I opened this website in IE and the .rar link worked.
I have extracted all the files and they work perfectly.

These models are absolutely amazing!!!
