what i mean is that you can now clearly see that its a cone with a texture. it doesn't look like its filling space (thats volumetric).

ah ok
i see what you mean.
i'll try playing with a spot lamp with a halo, but since halos don't work well with ray traced transparencies it might not look that great.

ehmm..... then what about making each ray a cone? i think that should enhance the effect. i mean, right now, you have like 8 rays textured on 1 cone. try texturing 8 cones to form a full tractor beam.

I think the tractorbeam looks just fine. Andy, you are a miracle worker for Blender, you are greatly showing that blender is a underated program. ^_^. By the Way, You should make you own site dedicated to blender. Have tuturals that explain in lamen's terms. You did well teaching me to use a halo to make a photon torpedo.

so just to let you all know, i have not died, i am still working on this project, but i'm taking a break to double check somethings and i have discovered that my shield effect only works when the camera is on the same side as the shield impact, SO, i will try something else and get back to you guys,

right now i am also working on a new engineering for an ambassador class ship, in the same style as my bridge.

can someone tell me if you like the color scheme, or how i could improve it.
over at the new foundation3d formerly lightwave group

someone said that i need to adjust the colors to make it look more tmp era
but idk which scheme to go with

since the st:1 is all greys
1701-A is grey red and tan
1701-b is grey orange and blue

but i'm leaning towards the excelsior
with grey and blue, since that is what my ambassador bridge is closest to.

Now Andy, thats what i call an improvement!!!. That engine room looks BRILLIANT!!! I really like it. I really really do. PLEASE Tell me you plan to release it. ::cries::

The interiors look great. Puts those TNG "Yesterday's Enterprise" set designers to shame.

i do have a question. why all the messy shadows? they kinda annoy me, makes the pic really ugly while it could be really beautiful. can you make a pic with just 1 light source and soft shadows? please?

Ignore Enzo Andy. Your doing the right thing in showing the realism of multiple light sources. There are many lights in the starship, and the core itself puts out light. I think it looks good.

Sorry but go watch the series again, Sherlock. I never ever saw this. ofcourse, this is merely a WIP and the final render will probably have soft shadows. But why do you react so hostile to constructive commentary? I'm sure Andy can understand what i said and he will probably have a reason that the shadows are messy like this (render time). The reason i suggested for 1 light source was so that render time would not be increased so much. I was only pointing out that he should show us a shot with soft shadows, so we get a better image of the whole.

Sorry Enzo buddy, I didnt mean to sound Hostile. But I really dont think he should listen to you. You might cause he to ruin it :D
